The principle of SMR technology is as follows:
After compression and desulfurization, natural gas, the feedstock of this hydrogen production process, reacts with steam in the presence of catalysts. We can use this chemical formula to describe this reaction more clearly.
Step 1: CH4+H2O→3H2+CO -Q
By this reaction, a lot of heat will be released and we use an economizer to collect the heat.
Next, the syngas enters the shifter and the carbon monoxide will be changed into carbon dioxide.
Step 2: CO+H2O→H2+CO2 +Q
In the end, after the purification of the PSA system, high purity product hydrogen will be collected in the tank.
