Based on the gas preparation system for the ammonia synthesis process, Ally High-Tech has optimized the SMR process, including the reformer, heat exchange network (HEN) and purification system, to reduce capital investment and natural gas consumption.
Generally, Ally High-Tech has been working on reformer optimization and has obtained more than 6 patents in this field. Ally High-Tech provided a hydrogen solution with a capacity of 50 NCMH for the Beijing Olympic Games based on the 2008 PSA-related SMR process.

Process Description

Desulfurized gas is mixed with steam in a certain proportion. The mixture flows through reformer tubes where it is converted in the presence of a catalyst into a synthesis gas consisting of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, unreacted methane and steam.

A heat exchange system is used as an economizer, while an inverter is introduced to convert monomixed carbon into additional hydrogen and carbon dioxide. The resulting gas goes to a PSA unit where the hydrogen is separated from other gases. The PSA off-gas is recovered as fuel.
